Medical Treatment for Bad Breath
Having bad breath though not a serious problem can cause lots of inconveniences and
embarrassment in our daily life.
In TCM theory, bad breath is usually caused by malfunctioning of the stomach and the
spleen, or due to accumulative heat in the lung and the intestines. Bad breath people are
those who have bad digestion, those who like eating oily foods , those with heavy work
pressure, those who do not have proper rest, and those who have chronic respiratory
infections, digestive problems, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, or glandulous
infections.
Treatments:
1. Releasing the lung and stomach heat, and nourishing the
dryness of the intestines. Chinese herbal prescription as follows:
- Raw gypsum - 30gm
- Reed - 30gm
- Raw Chinese Fox-glove - 12gm
- Honeysuckle - 12 gm
- Bamboo leaf - 9 gm
- Ningpo Figwort - 9gm
- Lily-turf - 9gm
- Panhsia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) - 9gm
- Forsythia- 9gm
- Balloon Flower - 9gm
- Liquorice - 3gm
Method:
Use 5 1/2 bowls of water boil down to 1 bow of medicine. During medication avoid eating
indesgtive foods such as deep fried foods, shrimps, crabs, bamboo shoots, eggs, peanuts,
etc.
2. Bad Breath due to Constipation:
Prescription:
- Hemp seed ¡V 30 gm
- Loquat leaves ¡V 9 gm
- Mulberry root bark ¡V 9 gm
- Yellow arbor-vitae ¡V 9gm
- Trifoliate Orange ¡V 9gm
Magnolia barb ¡V 9gm
- Peony stem ¡V 9gm
- Bitter almond ¡V 9gm
- Ningpo Figwort ¡V 9gm
- Anemarrhena ¡V 9gm
- Lily turf ¡V 9gm
- Gold Thread ( Rhizoma Coptidis) ¡V 4 gm
- Liquorice ¡V 4gm
- Rhubarb (later) ¡V 6 gm
Method:
Use 6 bowls of water boil down to 1 bowl. 10 minutes before done put in the Rhubarb. For
more serious constipation you can add in Senna Leaves.
3. Treatment of Bad Breath due to Sinustitus
Prescription:
- Red Magnolia Flower ¡V 10 gm
- Cocklebur ¡V 10 gm
- Purple Perilla Leaves ¡V 10 gm
- Ningpo Figwort ¡V 10 gm
- Trifoliate Orange ¡V 10 gm
- Magnolia Barb ¡V 10 gm
- Fishwort ¡V 4 gm
- Centipeda ¡V 4 gm
- Liquorice ¡V 4 gm
- Mint Leaves (later) ¡V 4 gm
Method:
Use 5 ¡V6 bowls of water and boil it down to 1 bowl, 10 minutes before it¡¦s done, add
in the mint leaves.

- Pan-fried fish ¡V 1 tail
- Ginger root - 3 slices
Method:
Use 10 bowls of water and boils it down to 3 bowls of soup.
